Which is not to downplay the marginalization of atheists, which is very real, but it does create a problem, especially for women. The outright hostility and blatant misogyny I see among (predominantly white, male) atheists is disheartening, and the internalized misogyny among so many atheist women who are trying to fit in and be taken seriously is just heartbreaking.
Seriously? People have beliefs because they enjoy being repressed and marginalized? Well, that’s pretty lame. Tell them to go find a God.
Though I think there’s probably a number of likely problems/reasons why predominantly white men are the ones leading the movement:
1. White men are typically better educated, atheists are typically better educated
2. White men are typically wealthier than average, atheists are typically the same
3. White men typically have more respect in any movement in our culture
4. I’m of the opinion that arrogance and misogyny also carry more respect than the inherent victimhood and protests of the other side
