What if that happened, and it turned out everyone did?I just don’t find it likely… I’m sorry.
Even with the knowledge of varying viewpoints we, as a species, have not clinged onto a single belief system when it comes to religion.
We’ve had polytheist religions; We’ve had belief systems that involve entities rather than Gods. All this knowledge has caused nothing but further division amongst thinkers for centuries.
I sincerely doubt that, if wiped cleaned of all our pre-conceived religious notions and armed with nothing but an objective look towards all of these stories, fables, myths, and folklore pertaining to our creation and existence, we would choose to believe. Let alone believe in one. The arrogance behind the way some people think about the certainty of their religion is just too much for me.
I can understand why people today have been brainwashed (and I’m sorry for using this word but that’s exactly how I see it) to believe their religion over scientific knowledge. I just can’t see our species as a whole believing that, if presented at the same time, over the ideas of Darwin, Wallace, Hawking and other evolutionary thinkers.
And, if it did, I would be marveled by the human race. I really would.
It’s impossible for me to imagine a world without preconceived notions of culture and belief. It’s everywhere. Every thought we have, how we make decisions, what we watch, our standards of beauty… you take all that away, and it’s something like trying to imagine how aliens might be different from humans. Imaginative writers might come up with a compelling idea of what it might seem like, but who’s to say that their vision is all that accurate? I do believe that some sort of religion would be embraced, regardless.
